Male and Female Condoms

Condoms are very effective for preventing pregnancy but they do not give FULL protection against pregnancy. A very few women who used male condoms and female condoms will still get pregnant. Condoms prevent pregnancy by making sure the sperm does not go into the vagina and meet an egg.

It is therefore important to know how to use condoms correctly, as condoms may come off during sex or get split if they are not put on in the right way. Female condoms can be difficult as the partners need to make sure that the penis is in the female condom and not in between the condom and the vagina.

There are no main side effects. Condoms are free from sexual health clinics and family planning clinics. Some will also give out free female condoms.
